FORREST CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIONS
Are you prepared for a fire emergency?
Forrest Concrete Constructions have been installing in and above-ground concrete structures (buildings) in Ballarat, Bendigo, Echuca, Seymour, Eildon, Alexandra, Melbourne, Castlemaine, Daylesford, and all over regional Victoria.
Forrest Concrete Construction has been involved in major concrete construction work for over thirty years, so we know how to build concrete structures.
There are regulations and technical standards covering bunkers. The Building Commission has released an information sheet highlighting issues that should be considered when you are considering installing a Concrete Underground Bunker.
Concrete Bunkers need to be well signposted to assist emergency services
Concrete Bunkers should be located so that collapsing structures or trees do not prevent access
Vegetation conditions need to be maintained around the home and vault
Concrete Bunkers should not be located too close to fire hazards
Concrete Bunkers should be located so there is a safe path from the home to the vault. This may involve removing and maintaining vegetation on that pathway
The Bunkers must be able to withstand high wind and the impact of collapsing structures or trees
Underground Concrete Bunkers need to be waterproof and able to withstand vehicles driving on top of them
The Bunkers must be resistant to flames, high temperatures and ember attack
Doors should be fire resistant and made from material that has relatively low conductivity
With a Concrete Bunker installed, you can leave early with the peace of mind that, should your house be lost, your precious possessions will be safe
The Bunkers are engineered from high strength 40 MPS reinforced concrete, not lightweight materials and are a solid structure, as can be seen in the adjacent pictures
The Bunkers must be able to keep out smoke and must be well insulated to prevent the temperature inside the vault from increasing beyond a safe level
Remember that in bushfire conditions, services and equipment such as electricity, phone, radio, water pumps and sewerage become inoperable
A Concrete Bunker should not be used for any other purpose that prevents its use in case of fire e.g: storing flammable liquid
The Bunker should be kept clean and dry and free of spiders, snakes and other animals.
A Concrete Bunker should be used as part of an overall fire plan, rather than a single solution
If a fire comes through your area it is recommended you leave early
to guarantee the safety of you and your family.
With a Concrete Bunker, you will have peace of mind knowing that all your personal items and effects will be safe.
